A Woori Bank employee accused of embezzling 61.4 billion won in company money has been arrested.

Judge Yang Hwan-seung of the Seoul Central District Court issued a warrant for Woori Bank employee A, saying, "There is a risk of destroying evidence and running away."

Person A, who came out after questioning the suspect before arrest at around 2:40 pm, said to reporters, "I admitted the charges (in court)," and "I am sorry for causing trouble."

He was arrested by the police on the 28th on charges of embezzling about 61.4 billion won of company funds three times from 2012 to 2018.

Mr. A, a deputy general manager who has been at Woori Bank for over 10 years, was in the corporate improvement department at the time of the embezzlement.

Most of the embezzlement money was found to be a contract deposit that Woori Bank had to return to the Iranian home appliance company Entekhab, which participated in the sale of the former Daewoo Electronics.

The police caught a clue that part of the embezzlement money flowed into Mr. A's brother's business funds while grasping the flow of funds through Mr. A's account, and arrested Mr. A's brother on the same charges as yesterday.

His brother B is known to have suffered a loss of 8 billion won while promoting the New Zealand golf course resort development project.

Of the 61.4 billion won in the embezzlement, it is estimated that Mr. A shared about 50 billion won and his brother B shared about 10 billion won.

Police said that they saw his brother as an accomplice and applied for a warrant on the same charges.
