Public officials who wrote documents containing personal information of about 150 unmarried female civil servants working in Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do for private purposes were sentenced to probation in prison.

This is the so-called 'Seongnam single female civil servant list' that was reported exclusively by SBS in August of last year.

Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Court (Judge Lim Hye-won) sentenced Seongnam City Hall official who was charged with violating the Personal Information Protection Act today (27th) to 6 months in prison with 2 years of probation and 1 year in prison for Mr. B. sentenced to 3 years probation.

The court said, "Defendants abuse their business positions and use the personal information of public officials without permission, and the damage is not light, and commensurate punishment is necessary to prevent the recurrence of similar cases." We considered the lack of power,” he explained.

The document written in 2019 became known to the world when SBS first reported it in August of last year as the so-called 'Songnam single female civil servant list'.

In March 2019, Grade 6 civil servant A, who was working at the Seongnam City Human Resources Team, was charged with writing a document containing the identities of 151 single female civil servants in their 30s in Seongnam City and delivering it to Mr.

Mr. B, who received the document in question, is charged with handing it to Mr. C, who was the mayor's secretary at the time.

Former secretary C, who received the document, reported this to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission in August of last year.

In the report, Mr. C said, "In the middle of 2019, while working as a secretary, Mr. A looked at the personnel system for a month and received a personal document of a 31-37-year-old unmarried female public official at Seongnam City Hall. It was a documentary of hospitality, such as asking an unmarried person who serves as a secretary, 'Choose a female employee you like'."

Mr. A took the position that he was not sure about the document, but after the SBS interview, Seongnam City's own investigation started, and she admitted to writing the document.

In the subsequent police investigation, Mr. A and Mr. B admitted to the charge saying, "The secretary was a bachelor and made it in good faith."
