A new food security research unit has been created in Ploufragan (Côtes-d'Armor).

Founded by the national agency for food, environmental and occupational health safety (Anses) and the national conservatory of arts and crafts (Cnam), Metabiot aims to protect consumers.

The objective is also to reduce the use of drugs and chemicals in the food industry, says

Research will focus on pork, poultry and diseases that are transmitted from animals to humans, including risk bacteria.

The scientific work will be carried out "throughout the production chain, in farms and in the food industry", said Philippe Fravalo, professor at Cnam.

The creation of Metabiot was formalized in February at the International Agricultural Show.

A total of 23 people will work there.

“We are pooling our expertise to enrich our research,” explained Marianne Chemaly, researcher at ANSES.

The unit also welcomes doctoral students and postdocs.
