A 20-year-old mother who threw her daughter, who had not even opened the umbilical cord, in the trash can, was also sentenced to a severe sentence at the appeals court.

The 1st Criminal Division of the Daejeon High Court Cheongju Tribunal (Chief Judge Kim Yu-jin) dismissed the appeal of A (26), a woman charged with attempted murder, and sentenced him to 12 years in prison, the same as the original trial.

It is the judgment of the court that strict punishment is necessary.

Her biological mother, Mr. A, abandoned her baby in a trash can (10ℓ) at a restaurant in Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju-si, last August.

The baby, abandoned with the umbilical cord still attached, was rescued three days later by the fire department who responded to a citizen's report that "a cat cries in the trash can".

At the time of her rescue, her baby had deep wounds on her face and neck, and she even showed signs of sepsis. She underwent major surgery and managed to save her life.

The wounds on the baby's body were revealed to have been inflicted by Mr. A before abandoning his daughter.

The police initially applied the charge of attempted infant murder to A, but the prosecution changed the charge to attempted murder, which has a higher level of punishment than this.

Person A, who was handed over to trial, was sentenced to 12 years in prison at the first trial in January, and the family of A expressed their intention to give up custody of the child.

The court sentenced the loss of parental authority to Mr. A on the 8th of last month.

A court official said, "At the same time as the loss of parental authority to Mr. A, a representative of the child care facility has been designated as the guardian of the child."
