Prosecutor General Kim Oh-su submitted a resignation letter to Justice Minister Park Beom-gye.

In a statement today (17th), President Kim announced that he had submitted a resignation letter to the public and prosecutors, saying he was sorry for the conflict and uproar over the legislative process of the so-called 'check-and-run' bill.

Referring to his involvement in adjusting the investigative powers of the prosecution and police as a vice minister in 2019, President Kim felt deeply responsible for the fact that the prosecution was again pointed out as a target for reform after about a year of implementation and the legislative process to completely abolish the prosecution's investigation function is underway. He explained the background of his resignation.

President Kim also said, "It is appropriate to operate the criminal law system, which greatly affects the human rights of the people, for at least 10 years, and then discuss system reform."

He added that he hopes that the submission of the resignation letter will provide an opportunity for lawmakers to contemplate once more in the legislative process in the National Assembly.

The Supreme Prosecutor's Office said that it would make an announcement after internal discussion about whether Prosecutor General Kim Oh-soo will attend the National Assembly and whether he will go to work tomorrow.
