An option to avoid tolls

Google Maps will approach local highway companies for pricing information to incorporate when planning a route.

But this new functionality will also leave the choice to the user to choose a route that avoids tolls.

This new tool will be integrated into Android and iOS applications from this April during an update first for American, Indian, Japanese and Indonesian users.

The others will still have to wait for a wider deployment from the Mountain View firm.

New for iOS users

In addition to the addition of the cost of tolls, Google Maps will display in navigation mode the presence of traffic lights and stop signs on the route taken by users in the coming weeks.

Other details such as the presence of important points of interest or notable buildings will be added, as will the shape and size of roads in certain major cities.

At the same time, Google Maps will integrate a pinned widget on the iPhone home screen to speed up access to the application.

Apple Watch users will also be able to be guided home directly from their watch without going through their smartphone.

Finally, Google Maps will soon be fully integrated with Siri, Spotlight and Shortcuts on iPhone to create shortcuts that can be executed by simply asking the voice assistant.
