A fraud defendant in his 50s, who was sentenced to 7 years in prison in the first trial, escaped while receiving treatment at the hospital, and his whereabouts are unknown for three weeks.

According to the Busan High Court and the Busan District Prosecutors' Office on the 4th, Mr. A in his 50s, who was sentenced to 7 years in prison in the first trial in November last year, was hospitalized for ophthalmic treatment and then fled.

In September 2019, while operating a gift certificate trading company in Seomyeon, Busan, Mr. A is accused of deceiving victims by saying, "If you entrust money, I will call you through a gift certificate broker." , and was sentenced to 7 years in prison in the first trial on charges of defrauding an employee of a gift certificate worth 1.1 billion won.

Person A, who was imprisoned and has been undergoing the second trial since January, requested hospitalization due to his eye disease.

The detention center where Mr. A was imprisoned also stated that 'If Mr. A does not receive inpatient treatment, there is a possibility of blindness,' and the Busan High Court restricted Mr. A's location to a university hospital in Busan and allowed inpatient treatment.

It was decided to suspend the execution of detention for inpatient treatment.

However, Mr. A, who had to be treated at the hospital, ran away from the hospital and disappeared.

As the whereabouts of Mr. A, who left the detention center on condition of returning by the 14th of last month, became unclear for the third week, the trial scheduled for the 30th of last month was postponed to May.

Victims are worried that Mr. A, who ran away, might hide a crime or commit another crime.

Regarding Mr. A's escape, the Busan High Court said, "Based on the contents of the diagnosis and the opinion of the prosecution, we have allowed Mr. A to be hospitalized." The Busan District Prosecutors' Office is focusing on securing Mr.
