Crest (Drôme) will become one of the first rural towns in Europe to have an autonomous shuttle fleet.

Four Beti vehicles will indeed be put into service in the coming weeks in order to reach the station at the Biovallée d'Eurre (Drôme) via the hospital, reports

Le Dauphiné Libéré

.

These electric vehicles are the result of a collaboration between the manufacturer Navya and Bertolami, a transport company from Drôme.

Nine months of testing

They are equipped with fifteen seats and can reach 25 km/h.

Crest had already tested these driverless shuttles from September 2020 to June 2021. 700 people were then transported between the station and the Biovallée, for a total of 3,000 km traveled.

The municipality and the local authorities have therefore decided to continue the experiment,

They felt that these autonomous shuttles could in the future constitute a new mobility solution in rural and sparsely populated areas.

Bertolami should also establish a research center on site, in order to closely monitor this experimental program.
