A man in his 50s who brought billions of won worth of drugs into Korea in the form of art supplies has been sentenced to prison.

According to the legal community on the 31st, the 12th Criminal Division of the Daejeon District Court (Chief Judge Na Sang-hoon) sentenced A (56), who was recently charged with violating the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and the Act on the Management of Narcotics, to 12 years in prison. I did.

Person A is suspected of receiving about 2,03 g of methamphetamine (Methamphetamine) by air express from the Cambodian drug supply chain in May 2020.

Mr. A imported methamphetamine packaged in boxes of art supplies, such as paints and colored pencils, into Korea, stealing someone else's identity, and pretending to be importing art supplies.

Investigative authorities confirmed that the art supplies were drugs, and immediately arrested Mr. A, who came to receive international cargo.

All 203g of methamphetamine, worth 3 billion won based on the black transaction price, were also confiscated on the spot, which is known as the largest amount of discovery since the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office that investigated the case.

In May 2020, it was also investigated that Mr. A used methamphetamine and smoked marijuana at a motel in Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do.

Mr. A, who stood in court, denied his crimes throughout the trial, and ran for about 10 months from February last year before his sentencing.

The court sentenced A to 12 years in prison, explaining the reason for the sentencing, saying, "Severe punishment is inevitable as he not only tried to distort the actual truth, but also hid without appearing on the scheduled sentencing date."

Person A was dissatisfied with the ruling and appealed, and the prosecution also filed an appeal with the intention of 'reviewing his sentence, etc.'.
