The
Organization of Consumers and Users
(
OCU
) has recommended this Wednesday that citizens request a change of
router
after three years of use to improve connection speed.
A study carried out by the firm reveals that an old
router
registers connections five times slower in download and three times in upload than a new device.
OCU
considers that, if the contracted speed is far from what is received, if the Wi-Fi is frequently disconnected or if there are stoppages in the viewing of videos or communications, the consumer must notify the operator so that it reconfigures the
router
's channels or updates the
firmware
.
If the operations do not work, the entity considers that it should be exchanged for a new one if the new three years have elapsed since its installation.
In addition, the organization has asked the Government to follow the measures of
Germany
and
the Netherlands
that allow the consumer to install their own
router
with the configuration provided by the operator.
