The Democratic Party of Korea, which lost the presidential election, is desperately preparing for the June 1 local elections, but it is pointed out that the criteria for judging candidates' qualifications do not meet the expectations of voters.

According to the Gwangju City Election Commission, etc. today (30th), it was confirmed that 3 out of 4 Democratic Party candidates who registered as city council candidates in Nam-gu 1st constituency had a history of being punished for drunk driving.

In particular, Kwon Yong-il, former chairman of the Nam-gu Council, was named as a candidate for the Democratic Party even after being caught driving under the influence four times from 2003 to 2014.

Among the seven people who voted for the mayor of Gwangsan-gu from the same party, former Gwangju City Council Chairman Yoon Bong-geun, former Blue House Administrator Choi Chi-hyeon, and former Blue House Administrator Park Si-jong also have a history of penalizing drunk driving, respectively.

The principle that the Democrats would not qualify as candidates without exception to those who commit seven major crimes, including drunk driving, has not been followed.

In particular, the Gwangju City Party of the Democratic Party has set a separate standard to relax standards related to drunk driving.

Only those whose licenses have been revoked for drunk driving since the enforcement of the Yoon Chang-ho Act on December 18, 2019, or those who have been punished for drunk driving at least twice within 10 years and at least 3 times within 15 years based on the June 1 local elections will be disqualified. I did.

If you avoid this standard, even if you have a history of drunk driving several times, you can qualify for the Democratic Party candidate in Gwangju.

However, the Gwangju City Party of the Democratic Party plans to transfer the eligibility screening of preliminary candidates with criminal history to the Public Official Election Candidate Recommendation Management Committee to undergo related screening.

Since it is a local election that is held right after the presidential election, there is not enough time to properly review the qualifications.

However, as we have already prepared relaxed standards for those with a history of drunk driving, the eligibility test result is not expected to change significantly.

The eyes of the citizens watching this are not pretty.

One citizen said, "Citizens' sentiment is that they think that drunk driving is an attempted murder." He said, "It seems that they are too tolerant of drunk driving, considering before and after the enforcement of the law aimed at aggravated punishment."
