A bright red flame burned in the underground parking lot of the building, and the inside of the parking lot and vehicles were burned black.

Black smoke constantly billows out of the building.

At around 10:09 am today, a fire suddenly broke out in the basement of an obstetrics and gynecology building in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province.

About 60 people in the new and old buildings were evacuated due to the fire, but 18 people, including pregnant women and newborns, inhaled smoke and were transported to hospitals for treatment.

The fire department has issued the first stage of response and is working to extinguish the fire by mobilizing about 80 people and 30 vehicles.

In addition, search and rescue operations are ongoing to see if there are isolated people in the building.

The obstetrics and gynecology department in which the fire broke out consists of a main building, an old building, and a new building, but the fire department believes that the fire started first in the parking lot on the first basement floor of the new building.

The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are still unknown.
