A man in his 60s who set fires to his restaurant and rental car one after another has been handed over to the prosecution.

Daejeon Yuseong Police Station announced today (29th) that 66-year-old A, who was charged with arson of a general building, was arrested and sent to the prosecution.

A is suspected of setting fire to his restaurant and the rental car he was driving on the first floor of a building near Yuseong Oncheon Station in Yuseong-gu around 5:44 a.m. on the 19th.

The fire was extinguished by 119 firefighters in about an hour.

There were no casualties, but the car was burnt down, and some of the restaurant's exterior walls and household items suffered property damage estimated at 44 million won by other fire departments.

The police caught Mr. A in a parking lot near the site around 8:08 am on the same day through CCTV analysis and witness statements.

At the time of the arrest, it is said that A was in a state of intoxication.

In the police investigation, Mr. A is known to have stated that he had deliberately set fire to business due to sluggish business and rental problems due to the aftermath of COVID-19.
