Tesla has penetrated into the hinterland of established car companies such as Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz.

On March 22, local time, Tesla’s Berlin plant in Germany was officially opened.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk delivered the first Model Y models made in the Berlin factory to 30 users at the Berlin factory. During the delivery process, it was impossible to hide his excitement. Musk danced again.

In addition, he tweeted "Thank you Germany" in German.

Musk said that he is very happy to be able to deliver the first mass-produced Model Y at the Berlin factory, thanking everyone who has helped, "Tesla will ensure that the Berlin factory is the jewel of the region, Germany, Europe and the world."

Reuters quoted JPMorgan's forecast that Tesla's Berlin plant will have a production capacity of about 54,000 vehicles in 2022, 280,000 vehicles in 2023, and eventually an annual production capacity of 500,000 vehicles by 2025.

As early as November 2019, Tesla announced an investment of $1 billion to build the Berlin factory, and said that the Berlin factory will officially start construction in February 2020, with an annual output of 500,000 vehicles. The factory will employ about 12,000 employees, It is planned to be officially put into production in July 2021.

However, during the construction period, Tesla's projects were constantly hindered. It was complained by many environmental protection organizations for disturbing the hibernation of bats, affecting the hibernation of snakes, and affecting the life of lizards. Until the beginning of March this year, it waited for almost two years. After that, Tesla finally got a 536-page final environmental approval document.

In the end, it took two and a half years for the Berlin plant to officially start production, eight months later than planned, and the construction of the entire Shanghai plant took only 11 months.

Analysts all believe that the commissioning of Tesla's Berlin plant will significantly increase Tesla's market share in Europe.

As in 2019, before the Shanghai factory was completed, Tesla's sales in China were about 40,000, which jumped to 320,000 in 2021.

The penetration rate of new energy vehicles in Europe has maintained a high level of growth, and the European market has a high acceptance of pure electric vehicles.

According to the New York Times, in December 2021, pure electric vehicle sales in Europe already accounted for more than 20% of new car sales.

However, in the European market, local brands such as Volkswagen and Renault are more favored by consumers. With the electrification transformation of European local brands, their product competitiveness has become increasingly prominent. In addition, Tesla’s limited production capacity has led to its market share in the European market. There has been no significant improvement.

Tesla's main rival in Europe, Volkswagen Group, currently has a 25 percent market share in the European electric vehicle market, compared with about 13 percent for Tesla, according to JATO Dynamics.

In 2021, Tesla will sell about 168,000 vehicles in Europe, including 141,400 Model 3 sales, while Volkswagen will sell about 310,000 electric vehicles.

With the start of production at the Berlin plant, Tesla is expected to soon catch up with Volkswagen and even overtake.

In addition, because Tesla has always claimed to have cost pricing, its domestically produced models in Europe are expected to gain more price advantages as the scale expands.

Currently, the Tesla Model 3 Performance Edition is priced at 62,000 euros (about 440,000 yuan) in Germany, while the model is priced at 367,900 yuan in China.

It is reported that the current Tesla vehicles in the European market mainly come from the Tesla Shanghai factory.

Data from the Passenger Federation shows that in February 2022, Tesla's wholesale sales reached 57,000 vehicles, of which 33,000 were used for export.

According to Tesla's previously announced information, the Shanghai Gigafactory has a production capacity of 450,000 vehicles, and its actual delivery in 2021 has exceeded 480,000 vehicles.

Even at full capacity, Tesla’s production capacity in China is stretched. At present, the longest vehicle delivery cycle in the Chinese market has reached 16 weeks.

Musk has previously said that Tesla is confident that it can maintain a growth rate of more than 50% in deliveries.

It is expected to achieve an annual delivery of 20 million vehicles in 2030.

Analysts generally believe that Tesla's global deliveries in 2022 could reach 1.5 million vehicles.

As of the close of U.S. stocks on March 22, Tesla rose 7.91% to $993.98, the highest in two months, and its market value rose to $1 trillion.
