I am worried that the wildfire that started in Uljin, North Gyeongsang Province is not going to go away.

Let's go to the site first.

Reporter Shin Yong-shik, first of all, tell us about the Uljin fire situation.

Yes, I am at the Shillabi Memorial Hall in Uljin, where the Joint Unified Command Headquarters for this wildfire is located.

Today (7th), the fourth day of the fire, the forestry authorities are focusing on suppressing the fire head and Hwadu.

Dozens of helicopters, which started maneuvering in the morning, are still fighting the fire without a break.

The extinguishing rate of the Uljin wildfire where this fire first started is about 50% as of 12:00 noon.

Authorities said the fire was so large that it was difficult to extinguish the main fire today, and it aims to be completed by tomorrow morning.

I was worried about the fire that spread to the Geumgangsong community in Sogwang-ri, where there are 80,000 trees including 200-year-old cypresses on an area of 2,200 ha.

The Forest Service succeeded in preventing damage to the colony by building a defense line overnight.

Bulyeongsa, a temple in the Shilla Dynasty, was also in a state of tension at one time as it was in danger of being engulfed in wildfire until this morning.

Bulyeongsa prepared treasures and tangible cultural assets such as Yeongsanhoesangdo, and covered the stone pagoda with tarpaulins to prepare for fire.

The fire, which had spread in the south direction of Uljin-eup, also stopped the spread with a defensive line.

As wildfires prolong, the associated damage is snowballing.

In the case of Uljin, 15,000 ha of forest was damaged.

In addition, damage to private houses occurred one after another, with more than 270 houses burning in fire-affected areas alone.

About 4,000 members of the forestry authorities took part in protecting private houses and major facilities.

About 400 Uljin residents are evacuating to sports facilities and village halls, and volunteers from all over the country are gathering to help them, and donated goods are still arriving.

Meanwhile, the head of the Korea Forest Service will hold a briefing here shortly and explain the fire extinguishing status and nighttime firefighting plan.
