Since the start of school in March, elementary, middle and high schools are concerned not only about the infection of students but also about the confirmation of teachers and staff such as cooks.

It is not easy to find replacement manpower, but reporter Park Jae-hyun covered it.

A high school in Seoul.

There are less than 50 teachers in total, and six were confirmed before and after school started.

The school said that classes could not be stopped, and the confirmed teachers had to do remote classes at home.

[High School Teacher: Even though I had a very high fever and no voice at all, take the class online, because there is no substitute teacher.]

The situation at other schools is similar.

[Middle school principal: If the teachers do not have symptoms now, but the diagnosis is confirmed, and then they say they will do it themselves (I made remote classes)]

There was also an emergency for student meals.

As cooks are confirmed one after another, there are some places that have stopped feeding and provided bread and milk, or switched to convenience food such as fried rice.

It is not easy to find quarantine personnel to help with fever check or disinfection.

The Ministry of Education said that it had hired 61,000 school quarantine personnel to fill up to 87.3% of the required number of people, but in some cases parents take turns.

The Ministry of Education said it had prepared a 75,000 manpower pool to replace confirmed teachers.

Retired teachers or those waiting for appointment.

However, finding real substitute teachers is not easy.

There are not many people who will work only during the 7-day quarantine period, and teachers' organizations are opposed to hiring instructors without a teaching license.

[Middle School Principal: If it is confirmed suddenly, it is practically impossible to fill the manpower immediately.

No matter how thick the manpower pool is, there are limits…

.]

Considering this situation, the Seoul Office of Education sent an official letter to each school and allowed remote classes to be conducted if the confirmed teacher consented.
