As the day dawned, firefighting work using helicopters resumed in earnest in Gangneung, Samcheok, and Yeongwol.

At this time, let's connect a reporter who is at the East Coast Wildfire Prevention Center to see what the current forest fire situation in Gangwon-do is.

Reporter Ha Jeong-yeon, first, tell us about the situation of the Gangneung forest fire.

<Reporter>

Yes, I am at the East Coast Wildfire Prevention Center in Gangneung.

Right now, the situation room here seems to be quite busy from the morning to exchange radio with the forest fire extinguishing personnel from the morning.

The wildfire that occurred in Okgye-myeon, Gangneung yesterday (the 5th) has not caught a big flame yet, but the spread has been suppressed to some extent.

Strong winds caused the fire to spread all the way to the east coast, but authorities focused on building defenses overnight and preventing further spread.

According to the Forest Fire Prevention Center here, the wind in Gangneung is somewhat milder than yesterday, and the authorities are putting out the flames by mobilizing 28 helicopters and ground firefighting personnel at the same time as sunrise.

How is the situation in Samcheok and Yeongwol?

<Reporter>

Yes, the fire that has spread to Samcheok has been greatly alleviated.

Although we have not caught fire yet, we are accelerating the fire-fighting work by sending in 6 fire-fighting helicopters in the morning.

The Samcheok LNG production base has not suffered any damage yet, but the border defense is continuing in case of an unexpected spread.

The Yeongwol wildfire that occurred yesterday had difficulties in extinguishing the fire until early this morning due to the rugged terrain.

Helicopter 11 arrived this morning, speeding up the firefighting process again.
