Yesterday at 11:20 am, the fire that started in Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do spread quickly with strong winds.



The fire spread to the vicinity of the Hanul Nuclear Power Plant and the Samcheok Base of Korea Gas Corporation within five hours, and after a brief lull, it burned again and went up to Samcheok, Gangwon.



The fire is heading south again with the wind, but this time it threatens Uljin-eup.

About 15 km of the Donghae Expressway was completely under control, and the railway connecting Gangneung and the East Sea was also blocked.



The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters said that 338 various facilities, including houses, were damaged by the forest fires in Uljin and Samcheok, and about 6,200 people were evacuated.



The total area burned is 1,775 ha, the size of 15,000 soccer fields, and the scale of damage is expected to increase.



A total of 19 wildfires have occurred across the country for two days from yesterday, and 7 of them have not been put out yet.



For the first time ever, the Fire Department has issued the highest level of 'severe' among fire hazard warnings nationwide.



President Moon Jae-in has instructed the forest fire-affected areas to review the declaration of a special disaster zone.
