The forest fire in Kim Satgat-myeon, Yeongwol has been going on for nearly 18 hours.

The wind is blowing very strongly at the site right now, but this has been relatively quiet.

Even now, along the mountain ridge behind me, the flames are spreading rapidly with the wind.

In Yeongwol, 7 helicopters and 280 people were put in after the fire broke out at around 12:45 noon yesterday, but it was difficult to extinguish due to the high winds of about 10 m/s, the mountain was very steep and rough, and the umbrella was overturned.

Residents of 15 nearby households were evacuated to the community center, but fortunately, there were no private houses or casualties.

The fire spread to around 1,000m above sea level, which is normal overnight, and it seems to spread down the mountain.

Wildfires continued in Gangneung as well.

Today (the 5th) around 1:10 a.m., a fire in the hills of Okgye-myeon burned several private houses and about 30 households evacuated.

Residents in an emergency are evacuating after just spraying water on their houses, so the damage is expected to increase when the day is bright.

Earlier, around 10:45 last night, about 50 households evacuated to nearby villages due to a forest fire in Seongsan-myeon.

As the sun goes down, the withdrawn helicopters will be re-introduced to the Yeongwol and Gangneung sites soon, but it seems that there will be difficulties in extinguishing the fire as most of the firefighting personnel and equipment are concentrated in Uljin and Samcheok, Gyeongsangbuk-do, where forest fires are large.

While strong winds and dryness warnings are being maintained for all mountainous areas in Gangwon-do, the Gangwon-do Fire Department has requested the government to mobilize the entire country, saying that it is difficult to extinguish itself.
