A fraudster who had fled to Cambodia after stealing tens of billions of won and lived with a fake ID has been repatriated and punished after 13 years.

The National Police Agency announced that suspect A (63) was arrested and extradited to Korea today (23rd) on charges of fraud under the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes through international cooperation with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).

Person A is accused of committing tens of billions of won in fraud, including extorting billions of won from victims by deceiving them to pay them back if they open a stock account and use it as collateral for a loan in 2009.

Regarding Mr. A, the police issued one wanted case and the prosecution issued five cases.

In March of last year, the police received a red wanted, an international wanted for a felony suspect.

The police confirmed the fact that international cooperation to arrest Mr. A had not been done properly through a joint inspection between the Foreign Investigation Bureau and the Bureau of Investigation on the economic offenders fleeing abroad, and mobilized the most intensive measures to secure new recruits.

The decisive information for the arrest of Mr. A was obtained by the Interpol International Cooperation Team of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency in August of last year.

It was reported that an unknown Korean was staying in Cambodia using a fake Cambodian ID card.

The National Police Agency's Interpol system confirmed the information that the person in question was Mr.

Then, the Cambodian police requested the background of Mr. A's Cambodian ID card issuance, and as a result of the local police investigation, it was revealed that Mr. A was issued a false ID by stealing the name of a Cambodian who died in April 2010.

The local police arrested Mr. A on November 30 last year.

In order to minimize the risk of infection with COVID-19, the National Police Agency arrested Mr. A after pushing for repatriation (repatriation) to the country by taking over the recruits from the local police at the airport security area without entry procedures at the Cambodia airport.

“We will continue to strengthen cooperation with Interpol to arrest and repatriate criminals fleeing abroad,” said Kang Ki-taek, director of Interpol International Cooperation Division at the National Police Agency.
