Elon Musk's company Neuralink, which designs brain chips, has conducted experiments on monkeys.

However, of the 23 primates that were used in this context between 2017 and 2020, only 7 would have survived, according to information from

In a press release, the Committee of Practitioners for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) reveals cases of “extreme suffering, resulting from animal abuse and extremely invasive cranial implants during experiments”.

Monkeys locked up alone for these experiments?

This American association for the defense of animal welfare had access to more than 700 pages of documents relating to these experiments carried out at the University of Davis, California.

“The monkeys used in these experiments were confined alone, had metal implants screwed into their skulls, suffered facial trauma and seizures from the implants, as well as multiple infections.

In some cases, Neuralink and the University of Davis chose to euthanize them before the experiments began, as their health had deteriorated too much,” added the PCRM.

A complaint filed with the Department of Agriculture

Faced with this situation, the association decided to file a complaint against the company with the United States Department of Agriculture.

For its part, Neuralink made a point of specifying that “all new medical devices must be tested on animals before being tested on humans – a rule to which Neuralink does not escape”.

The company adds that all of these experiments “complyed with the federal laws in force”.

The surviving monkeys would have been transferred to the premises of Neuralink after the end of the collaboration with the University of Davis, at the end of 2020.
