In the United Kingdom, the company KP Snacks revealed that it had been hit by a cyberattack likely to attack the supply of its crisps.

After gaining access to the company's network, the hackers deployed ransomware and held the snack-cookie maker's data hostage.

According to BBC News, cybercriminals posted personal documents of KP Snacks employees on the darknet.

If they do not receive the demanded ransom, hackers threaten to release further data.

"Our internal IT team continues to work with third-party experts to assess the situation," a company spokesman was quoted as saying by Reuters.

The latter owns the brands McCoy's, Tyrrell's and Pom-Bear.

Crisps in the viewfinder

KP Snacks belongs to the German company Intersnack.

The manufacturer produces, among other things, Tyrrells, Skips and McCoy's crisps.

Already in November, the UK faced a shortage of crisps.

Last year, a digital infrastructure update at Walkers, the nation's largest producer, disrupted supply.

Walker produces the Cheetos and Doritos brands and this bug caused its shipments to drop.

The following month, James Hall, the Spar wholesaler, fell victim to a cyberattack.

It led to the temporary closure of hundreds of stores, also affecting KP Snakcs sales.

Today, the British crisps industry is the victim of ransomware.

Expected shipping delays

The Better Retailing site was the first to publish information about the attack.

In one post, he said KP Snacks warned retailers about shipping delays.

In a letter to its reseller customers, the company explains that it will have to limit the size of shipments to retailers in order to be able to “manage available inventory”.

In short, in the UK, this series of problems is expected to aggravate delays in international supply chains and labor shortages.

And this, “until the end of March at the earliest”, details Better Retailing.
