Today (11th) around 9:26 am, an explosion occurred at Yeocheon NCC's Yeosu 3 Factory in Hwachi-dong, Yeosu-si, Jeollanam-do, killing 4 people and injuring 4 others.

According to the fire department, the accident occurred during a test operation of a heat exchanger, a cooling facility in a chemical plant.

It is known that the subcontractor's employees exploded while cleaning the heat exchanger and checking for gas leaks by increasing the internal pressure.

The normal operating pressure of the heat exchanger is 10 times the atmospheric pressure, but at the time of the accident, it was found that the pressure was increased to 17 times the atmospheric pressure for testing.

Most of the casualties were workers who were near the heat exchanger at the time of the explosion, and it is possible that a certain amount of safety distance was not secured during the test operation.

Police and fire departments are investigating the exact cause of the explosion at the scene.
