A man in his 60s who verbally abused the medical staff who was testing for COVID-19 and rioted at the screening clinic was sentenced to prison in the first trial.

According to the legal community today (11th), Detective 2 (Judge Lee Dong-hee) of the Seoul Central District Court sentenced A (62), who was charged with violating the Medical Law, to 10 months in prison.

Person A is accused of swearing at nurse B (31) while undergoing a test at a screening clinic in Seoul in December 2020.

When Nurse B tried to insert a cotton swab into her nose for examination, Mr. A sweared at him, saying, “Make it soft,” and said, “Do you not understand what you are saying?” and “If I make a complaint, you will be cut off.”

At that time, nurse B calmly responded to Mr. A's insulting remarks, but was shocked by this incident and stopped working at the screening clinic, and a few days later tried even an extreme choice.

Person A, who was handed over to the trial, protested loudly to the medical staff, but he insisted that there was no swearing and assault.

However, the court did not accept this, saying, "The quality of the crime is quite bad, such as swearing at the victim and slamming the wall of the prosecutor's office with his fist because the prosecutor is uncomfortable."

He continued, "The victim went to Daegu for medical support at the beginning of the corona outbreak, and after that, he is a medical person who silently dedicates himself to the country and society while receiving various protests from the screening clinic. I am sentenced to prison,” he explained.
