The dice were almost cast from the start of Stadia.

If Google's cloud-gaming technology has proven itself, the Web giant had clearly not invested enough in its catalog of games and its marketing to appeal to the general public.

Business Insider today confirms the fear of many subscribers to the cloud gaming platform: Google today seeks to minimize risk by reducing its investment in the platform.

The abandonment of in-house productions for the platform had already hinted that Stadia was not doing very well.

Business Insider confirms it: Google would no longer consider investing in any exclusivity for its platform.

It is content, in 2022, to continue to supply its catalog of games with in particular many independent titles.

According to the newspaper, Google would not have managed to create a community rich enough to make its activity profitable.

With just under a million subscribers in 2020, the platform would weigh quite heavily on the group's finances.

Retention is said to be one of the main factors in Stadia's downfall.

Over the months, Google would have noted that many subscribers only remained subscribed to the service for a few months.

Google has not said its last word

However, it would not yet be a question of closing shop.

The Web giant would now seek to reduce its investments in the platform and sell its technology to other players.

According to Business Insider, Google would have tried to offer its technology to Bungie for the creation of an online platform.

The company would have been very interested until its takeover by Sony a few days ago.

Other players, including the publisher Capcom, would have been offered the services of Google.

It is not known, however, if any deal has been signed.

80% of Google's efforts are said to focus on negotiations with external players and selling its cloud gaming technology.
