A truck driver in his 60s has been sentenced to death after he hit and killed an elderly man in his 70s while crossing the road at a children's sanctuary.

Today (9th), Incheon District Court Detective 11 (Presiding Judge Iseul Kim) sentenced A (61), who was charged with manslaughter and flight under the Aggravated Punishment Act for Specific Crimes, to 2 years and 6 months in prison.

At the trial, Mr. A's lawyer said, "The victim entered the blind spot of the truck in violation of the crosswalk signal and was unable to find the victim despite (A) fulfilling his duty to keep an eye on the front." He claimed there was no doctor.

However, the court pointed out, "The driver of a nearby vehicle and pedestrians who witnessed the accident where Mr. B was being dragged about 18 meters honked or shouted, and the taxi driver following the truck also honked the horn and chased the truck."

He continued, "It seems that Mr. A would have been able to know about the accident if he had driven by looking back and forth, left and right according to the normal driving method."

The court sentenced Mr. A to imprisonment, saying, "The grave result of Mr. B's death in a disastrous condition has occurred, and Mr. B's family also wants the accused to be punished." , A's children are pleading for mercy, so we have comprehensively considered the fact that there is a social bond that can deter recidivism."
