In its doodle of the day, Google honored Sabire Aydemir, Turkey's first female veterinarian.

The scientist born in 1910 would have been 112 years old on Tuesday.

Passionate about animals from a young age, Sabire Aydemir pursued scientific studies at a time when women were not encouraged to study beyond high school, says Google on her blog.

She graduated from high school exactly the year Ankara University Veterinary Faculty opened its courses for women.

Honored even after his death

During her studies, Sabire Aydemir was the only female student in the faculty.

In 1937, she became the first qualified veterinarian and began a career as a laboratory assistant in bacteriological research.

She quickly became an expert in this field.

After a lifetime of promoting animal health and welfare, in 1984 Sabire Aydemir received a plaque honoring her position as the first female veterinarian in the Republic of Turkey.

Died in 1991, she posthumously received, in 2016, the honorary award from the Turkish Veterinary Medical Association.
