After a successful prototype in 2018, the start-up Jetson has created a consumer version of the ONE eVTOL.
It is a flying, foldable and single-seater vehicle.
Production is expected to begin this summer and first deliveries in 2023.
Jetson is a Swedish start-up founded by Peter Ternström and Tomasz Patan in 2017. The company specializes in electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles.
In a press release and an Instagram post from last October, it announced plans to market its new electric personal air vehicle ONE by 2023.
A flying vehicle
“It uses composite carbon fiber and state-of-the-art 3D-printed components, making it an extremely lightweight design.
It is also equipped with numerous safety features, including a redundant propulsion system and a ballistic parachute,” said Tomasz Patan, founder and technical director of Jetson in a press release.
To create this single-passenger vessel, its designers took direct inspiration from aerial drone technology.
The flying vehicle consists of an all-aluminum cell frame.
The latter houses a high-discharge Lithium-Ion battery capable of a maximum output of 88 kW.
The machine weighs 86 kg, which corresponds to the weight of a 50 cm3 scooter when empty.
Its LiDAR sensors allow it to follow the terrain and avoid obstacles.
Make flying accessible to everyone
“The Jetson ONE is an electric helicopter you can own and fly.
We intend to make everyone a pilot”, explains the other co-founder of the start-up, Peter Ternström in a press release.
He adds: “We are convinced that we can put anyone in the Jetson and we can teach them to fly in five minutes.
According to him, the Jetson ONE does not require any special training or license to fly it.
The first Jetson ONEs have an autonomy of twenty minutes for a weight of the pilot of approximately 85 kg.
The rider's weight must not exceed 95 kg.
The machines will be able to fly at a maximum speed of 102 km/h and climb up to 1,500 meters in height.
On the security side, a computer limits the maximum speed of the ONE.
The team also planned safety features such as a ballistic parachute and a redundant propulsion system.
First deliveries in 2023
Jetson plans to deliver the Jetson One in 2023.
The stock of the limited production run for 2022 is already sold out.
In an interview with CNET, Peter Ternström said that since launch, the company has taken 163 pre-orders.
The start-up sold the vehicles of this first wave for 79,000 euros.
In addition, Jetson has announced that it is taking new orders for a few additional vehicles.
