The government has decided to announce the transition of the quarantine system to the 'Omicron response stage' when the daily average daily number of confirmed COVID-19 in Korea reaches 7,000.

Director Sohn said, "In particular, based on the number of confirmed cases in the local community, it is considered as an important criterion to form a line of about 7,000 people. We will catch up and operate (response stage),” he explained.



Upon entering the Omicron response stage, the medical treatment system will be centered on local hospitals and clinics.



Currently, separate medical institutions for the treatment of COVID-19, such as life treatment centers and infectious disease hospitals, are being operated, but in the future, local otolaryngology, etc.



In the response stage, PCR tests are also carried out by narrowing the scope to those with symptoms, high-risk groups, the elderly, and close contacts, expanding the rapid antigen test, and reducing the period of home treatment and self-quarantine from 10 days to 7 days.



However, preparations for the participation of local hospitals and the use of rapid antigen testing are not yet complete.



The government is expected to announce a plan to respond to the medical system related to Omicron tomorrow.
