A man in his 60s, who became angry at not being able to arrange international marriages, is in critical condition.



According to the Jeju Eastern Police Station and the Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters, yesterday (16th) around 12:56 PM, A (64) set himself on fire at the office of a marriage information company in Ido 2-dong, Jeju-si.



It was confirmed that while talking to Mr. B, the president of this marriage information company, Mr. A poured gasoline from a plastic bottle he had on his face and ignited it with a lighter.



Mr. B immediately called 911 and put out the fire by pouring water into the basin.



Person A suffered 1-3 degree burns all over the body and was taken to a nearby hospital by 119 paramedics.



As a result of the police investigation, it was confirmed that Mr. A was unable to remarry through an international marriage, but it was confirmed that he had been in conflict by continuously demanding an international marriage arrangement from the company.



According to Article 9-5 of the Enforcement Rule of the Immigration Control Act, if the inviter (Korean spouse) has invited another foreign spouse for the purpose of marriage and cohabitation within 5 years from the date of application for a marriage immigrant visa, visa issuance is restricted.



It was confirmed that A had not met the period stipulated by the law due to the divorce after an international marriage in 2017.



A police official said, "If Mr. A regains consciousness, we will investigate the details of the incident."
