“Over the past week (January 3-9), the number of new cases of COVID-19 has increased sharply,” the WHO weekly epidemiological bulletin quoted TASS as saying.

More than 15 million new cases have been reported.

This represents an increase of 55% over the previous week.

Earlier, the head of the European department of the WHO, Hans Kluge, said that more than 50% of the population of Europe will be infected with the omicron strain of the coronavirus in the next six to eight weeks.
