Evaluating the extent of data collected by Facebook when using its platforms, this is the ambition of Facebook Pixel Hunt.

This is a project carried out jointly by the Mozilla Foundation and The Markup, an American nonprofit association specializing in data journalism, reports

In the viewfinder of the two entities: Facebook but also Instagram, belonging to the Meta group.

The objective is first to understand the methods used to track users of the two social networks.

The Mozilla Foundation and The Markup also want to determine what data is actually collected thanks to hidden pixels and which sites share it.

A waiting list before participating

To carry out this mission, Firefox users who opt for Facebook Pixel Hunt will use the tools of the Rally extension.

“Tech giants have built their success by tapping into your data,” writes Mozilla on its site.

To participate in this campaign, you will need to be patient and first go through a waiting list.

Then, each time you connect to Facebook or Instagram, many parameters will be studied and the data collected by social networks will be analyzed.

The data will be collected for one semester, until July 13.

We will have to wait a few weeks afterwards to have the first results of this study.

The Facebook Pixel Hunt project is launched in different countries, including France.
