The coronavirus vaccine made by Novavax in the US will be used in Korea from next month. Some say that it is safer because it is made in the same way as the vaccines that we have been given so far, such as influenza and hepatitis B injections. The government plans to use it first for people who have not yet received the coronavirus vaccine.

Food and Drug Safety has finally approved the use of Novavax vaccine.

It has been about a year since the government signed a contract to supply 40 million units with Novavax.

Pfizer and Moderna vaccines currently being vaccinated are mRNA vaccines, while Novavax is a recombinant protein vaccine.

Corona vaccine is a principle that prevents cell penetration when a real virus enters by allowing our body to experience the protrusion protein on the surface of the virus. It is cultured and introduced into the human body.

This is a familiar method that has also been used in influenza, hepatitis B and cervical cancer vaccines.

[Kim Gang-lip / Minister of Food and Drug Safety: Since there are already vaccines targeting other diseases made and vaccinated in this way, it is expected that unvaccinated people will probably be able to consider this.]

The preventive effect was found to be at a level of 90%, and most of the adverse reactions were mild, such as muscle pain and headache, and disappeared within a few days.

However, the effect on the omicron mutation remains to be seen.

Novavax vaccine is delivered refrigerated in the form of a single injection, so it is easy to inoculate.

You have to get it twice, with an interval of 3 weeks.

The quarantine authorities are planning to use it for the first and second vaccinations of those who are not vaccinated from the middle of next month.

The third dose is not currently used as it requires additional authorization.
