Yes, I am at the site of the apartment collapse in Hwajeong-dong, Gwangju.
Immediately after the accident, surprised residents rushed out and evacuated the area, and the area was in a state of chaos.
But the tension in the field still remains.
Some of the debris that had collapsed is still hanging precariously on the building, so there are concerns about an additional fall accident.
In addition, during the emergency safety inspection, additional cracks were found in the building, raising the possibility of a secondary collapse. An emergency evacuation order has been issued to nearby residents, including the residential-commercial complex where about 100 people live right next to the construction site.
Fire officials are focusing on ascertaining if there are any additional casualties for now.
It is difficult to determine how many workers were put in before and after the accident, including 6 workers who could not be reached.
When the on-site investigation is complete, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will begin an investigation into the exact cause of the accident.
