According to her, those who have had coronavirus can develop cancer in the lungs and in the gastrointestinal tract.

In this regard, it is necessary to conduct careful medical monitoring of the relevant authorities in those who have been ill with COVID-19. 

“There are already certain developments that in people who have undergone COVID-19 with damage to the lung tissue, after a certain period of time, inflammatory diseases associated with oncology of the lung tissue and the gastrointestinal tract began to be detected quite often,” said Solomatina.

She noted that these inflammations may just become the initial stage for the development of cancer.

“Covid infection is an inflammatory process, and oncology is an inflammatory process, that is, the source of oncology, the trigger mechanism, is the inflammation caused by COVID-19,” she said.

Earlier, the FAN reported that the epidemiologist, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences Gennady Onishchenko, speaking at a press conference at the Patriot media center, called the pandemic a check by the healthcare system around the world.

On December 30, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said that the level of herd immunity to coronavirus in Russia is 61.8%.
