A police officer who was fired after installing an illegal film camera in the bathroom of the police district where he works has been handed over to the prosecution under detention.



The Chungbuk National Police Agency announced today (31st) that it had sent a sergeant A (33) from Cheongju Cheongwon Police Station to a branch on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (camerang, etc.).



Mr. A is accused of installing an illegal filming camera in the men's and women's bathroom on the second floor of the district where he works since mid-January.



It was confirmed that the installed camera was a type of small camera and was a body cam attached to clothes.



A's crime came to light recently when fellow policewoman B discovered an illegal camera installed in the bathroom.



When Mr. A realized that the camera he had installed in the bathroom had disappeared, he tried to delete and conceal the recorded video, but when the investigation began, Mr. A confessed to the crime.



The police held a disciplinary committee on the 29th and fired Mr. Dismissal is the highest level of discipline.



Police said that he was asked to take responsibility for commanding and supervising Mr. A's supervisor, Inspector C, with an 'ex officio warning', and Inspector D, the district commander, was transferred to another job site, the police said.



Policewoman B, who discovered the camera, is said to be currently receiving psychological treatment.



Cheongwon Police Station Chief Lee Woo-beom apologized, saying, "I feel deeply responsible for the loss of the honor of a police officer who works quietly," said Lee Woo-beom, "a serious criminal act of forgetting the position of a police officer."
