On the 12th of last month, a letter was delivered along with a check for 2,000 dollars to the Sinchon District at the Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul.

It was sent by a woman in her 70s who lives in New York, USA, and the letter contained the story of how she lived as a high school student in Sinchon, Seoul from a rural area in Gangwon-do in the mid-1970s.

On a cold winter night, while returning home from a part-time job, I saw ladies selling mussels at Sinchon Market. Mr. Jang, who was hungry but had no money, pondered and asked if he could eat just one bowl, and said he would give the money tomorrow.

At that, one of the ladies willingly offered me a bowl of warm mussels.

However, Mr. Jang could not pay for the mussels the next day, and even after emigrating to the United States, he continued to live in debt.

Then, although it was too late, I sent the money along with the letter to repay the good deeds.

“I would be grateful if you could provide even a hot meal to the most needy person in the area,” said Jang.

Netizens responded, "The heart of an aunt who would have given her food even though she knew she wouldn't get paid. It's touching.", "How warm a bowl of mussels must have been for a hungry student... It's like a movie."
