For several years, some alarming testimonies have been relayed by employees responsible for moderating content on social networks.

Recently, Candie Frazier, one of TikTok's 10,000 moderators, filed a class action lawsuit against ByteDance, the network's parent company, reports

She explained that her position would have resulted in her developing post-traumatic stress disorder.

This disorder would have developed in particular because of the large number of traumatic content that she was forced to watch in this post: child pornography, rape, beheadings, suicides, shootings or even animal mutilations.

In addition, moderators would only have 25 seconds to make a decision about such content.

Hundreds of videos watched every day

In total, according to the elements developed in the complaint filed, employees have to watch thousands of sometimes shocking videos during twelve-hour days in which they are only entitled to two 15-minute breaks and to a one hour lunch break.

The number of videos viewed would also be multiplied for certain moderators who would work on several screens simultaneously.

These conditions, to which is added a limited professional support for the psychological consequences of this position, had already invited Facebook moderators to testify last year.

With this lawsuit, Candie Frazier hopes to obtain compensation for the psychological injuries suffered.

She would also like the working conditions of moderators to be improved, in particular through the creation by companies of a medical fund for moderators.
