The court sentenced Choi, the mother-in-law of presidential candidate Yoon Seok-yeol, to one year in prison for forging a balance certificate during the land purchase process.
Previously, Choi was handed over to trial on charges of using a forged balance certificate as if 34.9 billion won had been deposited in a savings bank during the land purchase process in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province in 2013.
Candidate Seok-Yeol Yoon expressed his position that it was not appropriate to publicly comment on the judgment of the judiciary, and Choi's lawyer said, "I hope that this case will not be abused for political purposes."
