Last September, Google launched into the paid newsletters market.

Motivated by the new popularity of newsletters, Google decided to follow in the footsteps of Bulletin, launched in January by Twitter, and Revue, launched in June by Facebook.

The Area 120 project incubator was responsible for developing this new service, which had been named “Museletter”.

Museletter's goal was to provide a tool to automate the creation of newsletters and blog posts from any document on Google Drive.

This newsletter was intended to help content creators develop their audience by offering their subscribers free or paid newsletters, according to their needs.

The service was mostly free, but should eventually include paid features.

Inconclusive

Unfortunately, like many experiments conducted by Area 120, Museletter will never be deployed on a large scale.

The development team has announced that Museletter's services will be discontinued on December 20, 2021.

“Area 120 projects are designed to test new approaches and explore opportunities quickly and Museletter has already taught us a lot.

Unfortunately, this experience is coming to an end, ”said the incubator in a press release.

On December 20, Museletter's website will be deactivated and the data collected by the incubator as part of this project will be deleted.

This abandonment does not, however, sign the end of Google's interest in newsletters.

Different tools may emerge in the future: “While this news may be disappointing, we still believe in the promise of new content distribution and monetization.

What's more, what we've learned will serve as a basis for future Google efforts in this and other areas.
