Lee Seok-ki, a former member of the United Progressive Party, will be released from Daejeon prison tomorrow morning after passing the resolution of the Justice Ministry's parole review committee.

It has been 8 years and 3 months since he was arrested on charges of conspiracy to revolt and incitement to rebellion.

In September 2013, former lawmaker Lee was handed over to trial under arrest on charges of conspiracy to revolt and incitement to overthrow the Korean system as an underground revolutionary organization, the so-called RO general.

The United Progressive Party was dissolved by a decision of the Constitutional Court.

Then, in 2015, the Supreme Court accepted the judgment of the appeals court, saying, "We discussed the destruction of state facilities, but we did not reach a practical agreement to implement it."

He was acquitted on the charge of conspiracy to revolt, and on charges of inciting rebellion and violating the National Security Act, and was sentenced to nine years in prison and seven years of suspension of qualifications.

Since then, he was sentenced to eight months in prison for 2019 on charges of embezzling hundreds of millions of won in funds from an election promotion company he was running.

The expected release date for former lawmaker Lee Seok-ki has been delayed from September next year to May 2023.

Former lawmaker Lee, including the Progressive Party, who had been demanding the release of Lee from the beginning of the Moon Jae-in administration, immediately welcomed it.

[Jung Tae-heung/Senior Spokesperson of the Progressive Party: I am sorry, but I welcome you once again.

This time, it is parole, but a pardon and reinstatement must be done quickly.] The

People's Power criticized and commented, "Do

you mean

to let Lee, who was found to be a threat to the Republic of Korea through the trial, walk the streets?"

The government is also known to plan to announce the special amnesty, which was tentatively decided earlier this week, soon.
