So-seon Lee, the mother of the martyr Jeon Tae-il, who was sentenced to prison in 1980 for violating the martial law decree, was acquitted in a retrial after 41 years.

At a retrial held today (21st), the Seoul Northern District Court acquitted the late So-seon Lee, saying that it was a just act to protect the constitutional order.

In May 1980, Mrs. Lee was imprisoned and sentenced to one year in prison on charges of violating the ordinance of martial law, including participating in a demonstration against the country in May 1980 and publicizing the miserable lives of workers.

Earlier, the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office requested a retrial ex officio against Lee to restore the honor of the deceased in April, and on the 25th of last month, he pleaded not guilty.

After the acquittal, Jeon Tae-sam, the younger brother of the martyr Jeon Tae-il, said he wanted to write today down for posterity and leave a world where the military and power would never again govern democracy.
