If there is something wrong with the heart valve, many surgical operations have been performed to insert an artificial valve after opening the chest. However, since about 10 years ago, more and more people are choosing a procedure that involves making a very small hole in the thigh and then pushing the artificial valve up to the heart through blood vessels. In medical terminology, this is called a TAVI procedure.

It is a treatment that deals with the heart, which is directly related to life, and whether this method is okay for all patients has not yet been fully verified. However, an internal claim emerged that a large hospital in Seoul ignored these procedures set by the government and even forged medical records.

Reporter Jeong Ban-seok from the Panda Team covered the end.

is a lecture by Professor A of the Thoracic Surgery Department at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital at a university in Seoul in December 2019.

However, at that time, a medical chart was drawn up that Professor A participated in the cardiology integrated treatment of cardiology and thoracic surgery and agreed to the TAVI procedure.

Professor A discovered this fact about 7 months later.

[A professor / Seoul St. Mary's Hospital (in 12th around 2019), Conferences (integrated care) has not been progress ended in smoke, I uiahhaeseo ‥ that I ve never signed into my name]

cases violated the integrated treatment principle, of course, Even the medical records are forged.

A fellow thoracic surgeon shared similar experiences.

[At the time, fellow professor: A patient who was thought to be an inappropriate TAVI procedure was found in the intensive care unit. When I found out who signed it, they said I signed it. I signed it while on vacation.]

I contacted the nurse at this hospital to see if it is possible to create medical records without the doctor's consent.

[Former nurse at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital: There is a common file. In that file, professors' IDs, passwords, and certificate passwords are just organized in an Excel file. The file can be opened by anyone.]

Professor A claims that 53 TAVI procedures were performed with this forged medical record in 7 months.

Surgical surgery costs about 5 million won, while TAVI treatment costs about 30 million won.

Of this, 20% is covered by health insurance, and the rest is borne by the patient.

[Professor A / Department of Thoracic Surgery, Seoul St. Mary's Hospital: The hospital is doing a lot of publicity by increasing the number of TAVI procedures. Because this is an expensive procedure, the hospital has no choice but to increase its profits.] If the

integrated treatment is false, you may be charged with violating the Health Insurance Act.

[Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service staff: Cardiac integrative treatment must be followed. If it is confirmed that (integrated heart treatment) has not been implemented, we will review (medical care benefits) again or such follow-up management will be possible.]

Seoul St. Mary's Hospital explained, "Last year, it was difficult to conduct normal hospital business due to the aftermath of the corona quarantine and the strike of clinical instructors."

The person in charge of the Tabi procedure has revealed his position, "I do not know how the medical records were written."

After receiving the public interest report, the police launched a full-scale investigation.
