According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, aftershocks of a magnitude 4.9 earthquake occurred in a sea area 41 km southwest of Seogwipo-si, Jeju on the 14th, and a total of 16 aftershocks occurred until 7 am on the 16th, the Korea Meteorological Administration said.



Nine of the aftershocks occurred within three hours of the main earthquake.



Three to six hours after the main earthquake occurred, there were 4 aftershocks.



The remaining three cases occurred 12 hours after the main earthquake occurred. Of these, the aftershock that occurred around 3:06 pm on the 15th was the largest with a magnitude of 2.8.



The latest aftershock was a magnitude 1.7 earthquake that occurred around 0:16 today.



The Korea Meteorological Administration expects aftershocks to last for several months to a year.
