In Mantes-la-Jolie, in Yvelines, a 62-year-old man equipped with a rifle and a handgun fired in the street before committing suicide but did not kill anybody.
The facts occurred in the district of Val Fourré.
The mayor of the city praised the rapid intervention of the police.
A 62-year-old man opened fire without causing a victim on Tuesday in the sensitive district of Val Fourré in Mantes-la-Jolie, in Yvelines, before committing suicide, police said on Wednesday. Several videos circulating on social networks show the man, equipped with a rifle and a handgun, shooting in the air while walking in the city before turning the weapon against him.
Asked, the Versailles prosecutor's office did not respond immediately.
"A huge thank you to the national police, the municipal police and the firefighters who were very responsive. The man fortunately made no victims," reacted on Twitter the mayor of Mantes, Raphaël Cognet on Tuesday.
According to information from the newspaper
Le Parisien
, the man "would have shown suicidal inclinations".
Several letters mentioning his intention to end his life were found at his home.
