On the Covid-19 front, the recall campaign is in full swing in France.

But the Moderna vaccine, reserved for over 30s, is the object of a certain disaffection, a certain mistrust among candidates for the 3rd dose who could receive it.

However, the Moderna vaccine which is given as a booster does not present any more risks than Pfizer, according to specialists.

The vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna use the same technology, that of messenger RNA.

Both can very rarely induce inflammation of the heart such as myocarditis, especially in men under 30 years of age.

This excess risk is a little more important with Moderna, perhaps, because it originally contains more active principle.

But all this was observed during the primary vaccination, in particular after the 2nd dose.

To limit the possible risk during the recall which is done several months later, the injection of Moderna, in France, is done at half-dose and is reserved for over 30 years.

In the United States, the booster with Moderna is a full dose and can be given to people over 18 years of age.

All of this is very reassuring

 "

No reason to shun it, insists Professor Jean-Daniel Lelièvre, vaccination specialist and head of the infectious diseases department at Henri Mondor hospital in Créteil.

We know that these risks of myocarditis are very much reduced after the third dose when the vaccine doses are taken at a distance,” he

explains.

In addition, these myocarditis are related to the dose of vaccine that is used and the dose of vaccine that will be used with the Moderna booster will be half doses.

All this is very reassuring about the use of this vaccine in the third dose away from the first two.
