<Reporter> A

military transport vehicle loaded with radar is standing on the road.

Dozens of residents block the road and fight the police.

[Oppose the radar that threatens the safety of residents! I'm against it!] The

work to install the Air Force radar in the village of Jangsan, Haeundae-gu, Busan started around 6 this morning.

Residents strongly protested that the Air Force did not even announce the radar installation schedule in advance.

The fierce confrontation lasted for nearly six hours, in the process of which four residents were injured and taken to the hospital, while about ten suffered minor abrasions.

[Sohn Woong-hee/Chairman of Jangsan Village Residents' Council: There was no agreement at all, and they are ignoring us and raising (radar) without consent. Why are you acting in such a hurry all of a sudden? .] The

radar deployed this time is a new 'Green Pine' radar that can monitor and track ballistic missiles, with a detection range of up to 1,000 km.

The military said that it is a necessary measure to protect the people from the advanced North Korean ballistic missile threat, and that the electromagnetic waves that residents are concerned about are at a level that is harmless to the human body.

However, the residents said that they would continue the fight against the radar, saying that the radar base is only 600m away from the private house, and that the electromagnetic wave test conducted in September has not clearly proven whether it is harmless to the human body.

The police have arrested four residents and are investigating them on charges of violating the Law on Assemblies and Demonstrations.
