A so-called 'eat-and-run' incident occurred in Jeju, where a rental car price comparison platform company attacked customers and individual rental car companies.

According to the Jeju Car Rental Association, etc., today (7th), Company A, registered as a mail-order business, sent text messages to general customers yesterday (6th) stating that 'the business has decided to close due to financial difficulties'.

He added, "It was difficult to operate, so all employees were retired, so it was impossible to serve customers, and the office was also cleaned up because it was not possible to pay rent."

As Company A failed to pay the reservation fee to individual rental car companies normally, rental car companies canceled the reservations of general customers.

In the process, it has been confirmed that there are hundreds of regular customers who have already paid the reservation fee and have suffered damage.

Currently, the victims are trying to figure out a solution by creating an open chat room on KakaoTalk, and nearly 680 people participated in the chat room as of 3 pm.

In the case of general customer reservations, the rental fee is often paid in full, so the amount of damage varies from as low as 200,000 won to as high as 900,000 won.

Victims are inquiring with credit card companies, but there is no proper solution.

It is said that damage not only to general customers but also to individual car rental companies was huge.

An official from Jeju Island explained, "In the case of rental car companies, the amount of damage per company seems to range from 30 million won to 50 million won because they receive payment for a certain period of time every one or two months."

Kang Dong-hoon, chairman of the Jeju Rent-a-Car Association, said, "We are receiving damage from member companies until today. We plan to take legal action after consulting with a lawyer."

Meanwhile, Company A's website was closed at the request of the city of Jeju at around 1:00 pm today.

A Jeju city official said, "As it has been confirmed that Company A has signed up for the Jeju Island Tourism Association's guarantee deduction, we are currently looking into whether victims can be rescued through the guarantee deduction."

The Jeju Police Agency received the first report the day before and is currently investigating the case.

A police official said, "As the investigation is in the early stages, we do not know the exact extent of the damage yet, but we are aware that there are many victims."

He explained, "If you have suffered damage from Company A, you can go to the police station near your residence or any police station in the Jeju area and file a report."

This is a 'news pick'.
