Three international students from a university in Seoul who were classified as suspected of being infected with Omicron, a new variant of COVID-19, were confirmed with Omicron.

This is the first time that an Omicron mutation has been confirmed in Seoul.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, three foreign students attending Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Kyunghee University, and Seoul National University were confirmed to have been infected with the Omicron mutation.

All of them were found to have visited the Michuhol-gu church in Incheon, where the pastor and his wife, the first confirmed patient of Omicron in Korea, attended.

As more confirmed cases of Omicron mutations appear in Seoul, concerns about the spread of Omicron mutations are also growing, especially in university districts.

These universities are identifying the movement of confirmed students and preparing quarantine measures, but there is a possibility that additional infections may emerge.

Hankuk University of Foreign Studies has decided to convert all classes to non-face-to-face by the 14th, and to operate a limited library, etc. included in the movement of the international student, until the 11th.

It is reported that Seoul National University is considering a plan to allow dormitory students to undergo rapid molecular diagnostic tests as the student lived in the dormitory after quarantined those who were classified as close contacts.

Kyung Hee University also plans to recommend testing for COVID-19 to students living on the same floor as the student has been identified as a dormitory student.
