Tensions are rising in the university district as a number of suspected cases of infection with Omicron, a new mutation of COVID-19, among foreign students attending a university in Seoul have emerged.

According to the university district today (6th), one foreign student each from Seoul National University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and Kyunghee University was classified as a suspected case of Omicron infection.

All of them were found to have visited the Michuhol-gu church in Incheon, where the pastor and his wife, who were the first confirmed cases of Omicron in Korea, attended.

They tested positive for COVID-19 on the 3rd, but it seems that it will take more time to confirm whether Omicron is confirmed.

Each university is closely monitoring the possibility of Omicron transmission and tightening the reins of quarantine.

Hankuk University of Foreign Studies held a total of two emergency response meetings until today and decided to convert all classes to non-face-to-face by the 14th.

The final exam may also be conducted non-face-to-face.

In addition, until the 11th, we have decided to restrict the operation of libraries included in the circulation of international students who show symptoms of Omicron.

An official from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies said, "A total of 169 people overlapped with the student.

Seoul National University quarantined those who were classified as close contacts of students suspected of Omicron, and Kyung Hee University plans to conduct further discussions after confirming whether or not Omicron has been confirmed.

Concerns have been expressed among students about the suspicion of Omicron.

In particular, as Seoul National University and Kyunghee University maintain the face-to-face class policy, students' anxiety is also high.

Seoul National University student Park Mo (24) said, "I am concerned that five students in the same laboratory received a text message asking them to be tested for COVID-19 today. I want you to pay attention,” he said.

Park Mo (22), a student at Kyunghee University, said, "It's been a few days since I heard the news of Omicron on the news, but I'm stunned to hear that a student from the same school has been caught."
